Humble Object 1

Even the most humdrum everyday seemingly boring object can be pretty sometimes. This photo shows the shadow of an empty wine glass. The photo was taken at a restaurant I shall not name, at time not specified and after I had drunk the contents of the glass but think it’s quite beautiful! What do you think?

PaperCut Princess

This is my first attempt at papercut! I’m very pleased. It fits in with my love of all things bird-of-prey and I had a great time doing it. All you need is a cutting mat, a good scalpel and some paper. I just used normal paper for this one as it was my first go. But, unfortunately, the paper I chose marked very easily (you can see the oil from my hands has left marks)! Normal paper also tears when you try to cut very thin sections. So, for the next one I’m going to use some thicker art paper. Have you tried papercut art before? I’d love to hear how it went.

To see some really talented artist’s work, have a look at weburbanist.com. The pics on the site are really AMAZING! I’ll have to keep practicing.

Little Owl Dream

This is my latest piece. It’s titled ‘Little Owl Dream’. It’s a bit of a departure from the more detailed work that I do and I wasn’t even going to put it up here but people keep telling me how much they love it so I thought I’d share it! The Athene noctua is commonly known as the Little Owl after its small size. As far as I can gather, it’s not found in Australia but it was introduced in New Zealand in the early 20th century. The Little Owl was sacred to the goddess Athena, from whom it gets it genus name of Athene.

Internet Bread Crumbs

I’m always stumbling around the Internet. I say this because my traipsing round the Net is not graceful. It really is stumbling. I flit from here to there and then back to here again. All the while, I’m following links like little sugar-coated breadcrumbs until I have no way to get back to where I started.

Anyway, on one of my stumbles I found Juxtapoz Magazine and I really like it. That’s where I found out about Lizzy Stewart (my Laughing Lion post). She was on the illustration page. Here, have a little squiz at Juxtapoz and let me know if you like it too.
