Low Ceiling Challenge.

I promise that this will be the last blog about the new house. Well, maybe not but I’ll put some more arty farty stuff up next. 🙂 I just had to blog about low ceilings! Our new place has quite low ceilings but they’re not really, really, really low. Just a smidge. It is actually starting to worry me and it turns out that it worries quite a few people. It might be the fact that in our new place the last owners had installed ceiling fans. Maybe that’s what makes us think that they’re low.

Who votes to get rid of the ceiling fans?

Anywhoo, I’ve been thinking about what you can do to your ceilings to make them look higher without too much fuss. The photos above are some funky rooms with low ceilings from Manolo for the Home, My Design Dump, and the tiny bathroom pic is from here. My favourite is the ceiling with the detailed molding but that doesn’t really fit my definition of ‘not too much fuss’. Maybe we’ll go with subtle striped curtains instead. That molding is on my wish list though!

Got any tips for low ceilings?

Furniture Mismatch

I’m obsessed with our new house and making it a bit of a statement. As with many of you guys out there, Hubby and I have inherited quite a bit of furniture so lots of our stuff is mismatched. But, I think that adds to what you can do. It looks quirky and helps you express yourself.

Here are some photos of my favourite mismatched furniture pieces from The Pocket Stylist and Scrimpalicious. I love how they’ve painted all the different chairs that lovely duck egg blue colour in the second photo. And the stick chandelier/suspended Christmas tree looks fantastic! I can imagine using this decorating tip for a kid’s party, housewarming or any other party. You could put coloured flags, nametags or any type of ornament on here. You could even use small church candles and melt them in so they stand up by themselves. Of fairy lights…

Decorating Dilemmas..

I can’t wait to unleash my colour sensibility on the decorating side of things now that we have bought a house. But, I can’t really remember what the place looks like! We took lots of photos but wall colours never look the same in photos. Has anyone else ever done this? Have you ever been so overwhelmed that you couldn’t remember exactly what the inside of your place looked like?!

The photos above are some of my favourite uses of colour from The Inside Story,  The Pocket Stylist and Little Lovely. At the moment I am loveing blues and greys.

A House. A Home.

My Hubby and I have just bought a house. This means: a mortgage, packing (why is the kitchen always the hardest?), bubblewrap, putting books on top of the wine glasses (naughty Hubby!), unpacking, and a sore back! This photo of a house covered with balloons says just what we’re feeling. But, packing also means popping the bubblewrap once we’ve unpacked! Yay!

POP POP!
